Dr. Leslie E. Grant is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. She graduated from high school in Gary, Indiana, and received her Bachelor of Science degree Cum Laude from Boston University. Dr. Grant went on to obtain a Master of Speech Pathology and Audiology Degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Grant obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1986, and completed a General Dentistry Practice Residency at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey in 1987. She worked in her private practice for more than twenty years, and provided community based oral health services with the Baltimore City Health Department for several years. Dr. Grant previously served as the Chief Dental Officer for the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. She continues to provide consultative services in dental infection control.
Dr. Grant is a member of the League of Women Voters, and is a Life Member of the NAACP and the National Dental Association (NDA). She is a Past President of the NDA and a Past Board Chair of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP). Dr. Grant is a Fellow in both the American and International College of Dentists, and is an Emeritus member of AGD. She is an AAWD Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award recipient, one of The Maryland Daily Record’s 2015 Top 100 Maryland Women, and in 2006 was named by Ebony Magazine among the 100+ most influential African Americans. Dr. Grant serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Oral Health Across Boarders (AOHAB) and is the Director for Advocacy and Outreach for the Children’s Oral Health Institute. She is very proud of her firefighter/EMT son, Evan, a graduate of the University of Delaware.
