More than 86 percent of practices in the U.S. use digital radiography. ANSI/ADA Standard 1094 presents a paradigm shift in the assessment of image quality from a subjective opinion to an objective evidence based solution using imaging properties. This objective assessment evaluates the entire digital imaging chain composed of the x-ray source, the digital image acquisition device with a solid-state sensor or PSP imaging plate and scanner along with the associated acquisition-software, and the image display device (computer, monitor, and display-software), and the image viewing environment.
