Dr. Tawana K. Ware a board-certified pediatric dentist and former National Health Corps Dental Scholar, who has spent her career in dental public health, academia, and private practice. She is a native of Greenville, Mississippi, growing up from Germany to Georgia as an Army Brat.
Currently, Dr. Ware works as an associate pediatric dentist at Dr. J Pediatric Dentistry, where she enjoys serving all pediatrics patients, including those with special health care needs.
She is also serves as an adjunct faculty at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. This is where she received both a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and Master of Science in Dentistry. Dr Ware obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College, where she was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society. In 2011, her teaching career was launched at Meharry. While there, she was the President of Faculty Council, and a member of the Commission of Dental Accreditation site visit Steering Committee. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Agnes Scott College.
During her tenure in academia for a decade, Dr. Ware has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and commitment to community service. She was named a recipient of the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award for Excellence in 2020, and an Outstanding Woman Faculty Leader of the Year at the Indiana University/Purdue University in Indianapolis in 2018. Dr. Ware is a national leader in the profession serving with other nationwide faculty on the inaugural American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Collaborative on Dental Education Climate Assessment. She's past Chair of the ADEA Section on Minority Affairs, Diversity, and Inclusion, and the Section on Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Ware is member of the American Dental Association Board of Trustees Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and the 2014 past president of the American Association of Women Dentists. She has been elected as a Fellow both in the International College and American College of Dentists.
Dr. Ware is active in civic leadership roles including serving as a Trustee on the executive board of the Agnes Scott College Board of Trustees, Gillette Hayden Memorial Foundation Trustee and Secretary, and The Oaks Academy Trustee. She is an author with several publications and been a featured speaker at various national venues. She and her husband, Dr. Jermaine Ware, are the proud parents of a beautiful 12-year-old daughter, Nasya, a 7th grader.
