Management of acute odontogenic pain is accomplished with both opioid and non-opioid analgesics. To understand the roles and limitations of these agents, you must review patient medical histories and develop individualized pain management plans. This Presentation will provide an overview of strategies for effectively managing acute dental pain with analgesics, while also mitigating associated risks. You will also learn how to utilize a prescription drug monitoring program (PMDP) to assist in identifying and managing vulnerable patients at risk for substance use disorder.
